Hello everybody,

Since the Japanese version of 9D starts to become popular, I want to support this movement. Since its possible to replace the language file of 9D for translation I had a deeper look into them. I managed to decode the file structure very easy and wrote a program to modify and combine language files. Customizing the language file is very useful since the clients differs a lot in volume of content.

(Deleted due to outdating ...)

For the HowTo refer to this Sticky Thread

You know, this would help Acclaim fix all of the text bugs in 9D.

The tool is just modifying the textual content, we cant expect it to convert the game perfectly within a second. Otherwise Acclaims Job would be way too easy, wont it.

I will add a full text search in future to find misleading text more easily. The Level Ranks are at Section "EODString.XSR" ID 312+ in both clients. Feel free to experiment with it.

Edit: For me the level names are fine, just the "Requires" descriptions are broken. Quest text dont get automatically wrapped and some terms dont fit into the windows. Might me a good solution to change terms like "Chi Kung Attack" to "CK Attack".

I got some features in mind for the next version of the translator to be more helpful in editing issues.

Ok, I have the game now, the translator and so on.

But the files will default them selves back to original state after every patch ? Also it the translated stuff personal only (we can't share them with each other?)

Anyway, if we all log in, then they will completely translate it for us humble players too in the (hopefully near, or "soon") future... Lets cross fingers.

Of course the file will reset to "default" when a patch gets downloded, might be a good idea to have a backup

I wont published any XSD files with Indy21 or Acclaim text myself, because they may see it as spreading copyrighted content. But I may release a XSD with self-made corrections soon.

I doubt the Japanese GMs will release an english translated version themself. I am already glad we get "tolerated" there which is not always granted.

Telperiar, margeman, what bands are you in, lol... ? I think they might see the money behind opening an all English server of their own, but that's very unlikely at the moment indeed: look at their server load for instance... Btw, I am lvl 8, lol.

And I must say, the thing I liked most is that there is no "Acclaim" publicity anywhere I think they advertise something every 10 mins via Notice, but that is tolerable compared to ...

is there a way to change the font?
its one of the problems why we cant read some stuff

found this in the jap file lol

A secret notice that says DE Xi of Hangzhou is currently hiring warriors of Black Clan allegiance Hye Young please note I made it “secret” instead of public because in our version, Black Clans are against the will of The Imperial Emperor and so it would not be an open, public announcement. Let me know if it’s a problem. 혜영씨, 흑도 내용에 의해서 공문이 아닌 비밀 방으로 바꿉답니다. 확인 부탁드립니다.

I can only imagine how much work this was - thank you very much for this. Care to share the structure/format the language files use?

File structure was extremely easy to decode, took me an hex editor and a few minutes

  1. File Header:
  2.   FileID0: DWORD;                    // constant 0xFFCF
  3.   FileID1: DWORD;                    // unknown meaning, constant 0xFF01
  4.   NumberOfSections: DWORD;
  5.
  6. Section Header:
  7.   NumberOfEntries: DWORD;
  8.   SectionName: WideString(64);
  9.
  10. Entry:
  11.   IDNumber: DWORD;
  12.   Flag: DWORD;                        // unknown meaning, mostly 0x0
  13.   LengthOfText: DWORD                 // Length in WideChars, not Bytes
  14.   Text: WideString;                   // Variable length not terminated by #0
  15.

File starts with the File Header, followed by a Section Header, followed by X Entries, continued for Y sections. Since I use Delphi for RAD Coding, its not that much work to produce a working editor.

@eimajw

Install (and update) the Japanese client first. You find the Jap language File in the ".\Data\Script\" folder of the Jap client like you find the Eng File in the '.\Data\Script\' folder of the Eng client.

I guess you found the HowTo Sticky already.

@udin
You dont need this for translation, l8rdude wanted to know the XSD File structure, programmers stuff you know

When you see rectangles instead of symbols your windows missed to install the code-pages.

Go "Controlpanel" -> "Regional and Language Options" -> 2nd Tab "Languages" -> Check the box "Install files for eastern Asian Languages" and commit OK twice. Your PC should restart and have correct symbols right after.

I have released a Delta-Patch for the XSD file correcting some terms, check out the Download Section.
